Originally written on January 9, 2016 by my Mom — the day before we met.
I have missed writing here for the past couple of months. To be honest, Beau’s loss hit us much harder than either of us anticipated. So much that we decided to adopt another little Shih Tzu. We’re close to the finalization of the application process now. We had the home visit yesterday and our references are being checked now. I have heard that some of them have been completed and, hopefully, the others will be done today.
We would really like to be able to go next week to South Florida to meet the dog we selected and bring her home. Her picture is adorable and we really want her to be a good match for us. We will see.
Her name right now is “Selena Mae.”
She is a cutie. But she has sad eyes. If we are a good match for being her new humans, we will rename her “Bella Mia,” the feminine version of “Beau.” She is about the age that Beau was when we adopted him in 2005 — 4 years old, we think.
We still miss this little guy terribly.
We had a nice visit with Myra, the volunteer from Shih Tzu Rescue, yesterday. She said she would be making a good report for us and when we talked about the hole in our hearts, she said it would always be there for Beau but that the new pup will help to fill it and fill our hearts in a new way. We felt that but it’s good to hear our feeling confirmed. One thing: she is a girl and we have never had a girl dog. They are different. And we are looking forward to observing and learning the differences. Myra has had both and really prefers the little girls. Over the last couple of years our daughter, Michele, has gotten two girl dogs and now has two girls and two boys. She has also talked about how different the girl dogs are.
Chele says the girls are smarter. Oh. My. Lord. Beau outsmarted his humans on a daily basis and I wrote about it all the time.
Can’t you just imagine what this blog will be like if Bella turns out to be smarter than Beau?
I’ll say it again.
Oh. My. Lord.
Laughing as I post this. Yes. We’re ready to roll. 2016 is going to be awesome.
